Here are some tips to consider when choosing finishes for your videoconferencing setting. Wall finishes should have a light reflectance value (LRV) of approximately fifty percent. Wood, fabric, or painted surfaces should be low or no gloss. Avoid shiny metals, such as brushed steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, or copper.
The same principle applies to work surfaces and table tops: Keep them within a LRV of about forty to fifty percent--especially where conference participants gather on camera. Even metal or plastic cable management systems, decorative trim, or protective mats, should feature a low or no gloss finish and should not contrast in color or texture with the body of the table. Finally, avoid wood grains with high-contrast patterns or stains. In short, prevent flash and distraction.
